Varsey Rhododendron Sanctuary Trek (Sikkim) - 2900 Mtrs

The Varsey Rhododendron Sanctuary or Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary is situated in Western Sikkim in Singalila Range forming a natural border with Nepal in The West. The sanctuary also borders the State West Bengal from Sikkim in the south by Rambong Khola stream. The entire sanctuary is spread over 104 km2, across the Singalila Range. The Varsey Sanctuary can be reached from three points, Hilley, Dentam and Soreng. The most popular entry is Hilley since it is approachable by road and Varsey is only 4 km trek from this point through the beautifully laid gravel path shaded by different species of rhododendron. It lies at an elevation of 2900 Mtrs and has motorable road access upto hilley. An easy 4kms trek from there takes one upto Varshey  Rhododendron Sanctuary. One can also trek from Soreng of Dentum in west Sikkim. The Sanctuary boast of over 40 vairities of Rhodorendron and during full bloom, the whole sanctuary looks colorful. The place provides magnificent views of the Mountains.

Brief Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive Delhi and transfer to Hotel for overnight.

Day 02: Fly to Bagdogra and drive to Darjeeling.

Day 03: Drive to Tiger Hills (5 Kms) to see sunrise over Mt Everest and Mt Kanchendzonga ranges and also visit Ghoom Monasteries, Himalayan Mountaineering Institue, Zoological garden etc.

Day 04: Drive to Jorthan (6hrs)

Day 05: Drive to Hilley (2-3hrs) and start the trek to Varshey Rhododendron Sanctuary.

Day 06: In Varshey - day for hike in the region to see different varieties of Rhododendron plants and other Himalayan Flora

Day 07: Drive to Pelling via Dentam. En-route visit Pemayangtse which is known for its famous Monasteries

Day 08: Drive to Gangtok (114 Kms/ 7-8hrs)

Day 09: In Gangtok – Excursion to Rumtek Monasteries, Tibetology Institute, Orchid Sanctuary, Deer Park, Do-drul chorten, and Enchhey Monasteries.

Day 10: Transfer to Bagdogra airport (110 Kms) and fly to Delhi. On arrival transfer to hotel

Day 11: Depart Delhi or optional Delhi sightseeing, visit Red Fort, India Gate, President House and later board the flight to onward destination
